After divvying up the tasks, each member of our team is responsible for creating two lesson plans. However, some of the lesson plans, specifically those of Language Arts and Social Studies, will cover the range of weeks' worth of lessons, rather than a single lesson on a finite topic. Because the authors of this site are responsible for those particular content areas in the unit, the purview of the planning stage will focus solely on those areas.
After determining which content areas each person would represent, it was decided that there would be two levels of Language Arts classes, regular and honors. The Language Arts instructors (Katie and Kara) then determined that the best course of action would be to each choose a different novel for one "lesson" and combine their efforts to create a WebQuest for the other lesson, in which the task set for the students would vary in difficulty depending on whether they were enrolled in the regular or honors class. The final objective for the WebQuest and overall for the unit would be for the students to present their knowledge in a mock-Continental Congress debate.
